Meet Sam - I am Navi

I am Navi because I’m a strong independent woman, I have bold goals and I wanted to wear race gear that reflected who I am. I am Navi because I wanted to work on something I was truly passionate about and inspire women to follow their dreams. I am Navi because I wanted to build a business that was a reflection of all my passions.
I am Sam. Single mum of two girls, competitive age group triathlete and woman on a mission.
In 2010 I became a single mum. I was gutted. Life as I knew it was over. I had no money, no paying job and for a split second, no hope. Then my youngest daughter toddled in and told me she was hungry. In an instant everything changed. I knew I had to fight and fight hard to be bigger than the shitty situation I found myself in. Not only did I have two girls who needed their mum, I had my self respect, I knew in that instant I was not going to be defined by my situation in a negative way, look out world…
I made a list. The list was 10 things I wanted to do with my new life. Here’s the top 3 things:
- Have a one night stand
- Do a triathlon
- Get a passport and travel
I’d been in a relationship since I was 17 (14 years), I heard so much about the concept of a one night stand but was yet to experience it for myself. Solo weekend 1. Girls night out. Mission accomplished. I quickly figured out the one night stand was not something I’d bother with again!
Do a triathlon. I had no idea how much this would change my life when I scribbled it down. My first race was windy and cold, the waves were huge and fellow competitors were being hauled back into shore by surf rescue. I had never swum in open water, never in huge waves. I pushed the fear aside and found the courage within. I made it. On the bike course I discovered a flat tyre before I even got to the mount line. I kept calm in the face of crisis, I problem solved. I got it fixed. I rode that bike course and finished that damn race. At the start I was fraught with nerves but there was something else there too… excitement for the unknown. That race is so symbolic of my life, rough, wild seas and a flat tyre my obstacles, courage, determination, strength and self respect my tools for overcoming the obstacles and excitement for the unknown my motivation to keep going.
Triathlon has inspired and motivated me since that day. It’s become such a big part of who I am, it pushes me, it keeps me focused, it keeps me fit and healthy, its my alone time, my time to be part of a team, my time to set and reach goals, my time to inspire my girls and inspire others, my time to follow my dreams.
Through triathlon I met the amazing Lauren. We immediately clicked. She was like my long lost triathlete soul mate. A joint complaint about the ugly triathlon race suits for women and a shared passion for inspiring women saw the birth of Navi.
Navi is the culmination of a desire to look ace whilst racing and a dream to work on and in a business I am truly passionate about. I am Navi. Who the hell are you? Seriously, get in touch. Tell me your story, I'd love to know.
P.S. I also got my passport and in 2014 took my first overseas trip, I’ve since been to 6 overseas countries and the list will continue to grow!
